SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES
Susan A. Boyer, M.Ed., RN
Founder/ Director Vermont Nurses in Partnership, Inc (VNIP)
Susan A. Boyer is the founding Director of Vermont Nurses in Partnership (VNIP), a not-for-profit
organization that develops educational resources and services to support transitions into the
workplace for professional nurses and other staff in healthcare. Over the last few years, Susan
worked with Vermont nurse leaders to develop core resource materials, compiled the competency
development resources in an electronic manual, established a sustainable business structure, and now
provides ongoing consulting services that share the model, tools, and outcomes with agencies and
health systems from across the nation.
As a Co-Investigator for the VNIP Research Plan (NCSBN grant) Susan is currently tracking the
development of competence in clinical practice for both new graduate and nurses transitioning to new
specialty roles. This research expands upon the statewide data base that was initiated by VNIP.
Susan is a frequent presenter at various regional and national conferences and offers consulting
services to both agencies and health systems across the nation. Susan will present “Nursing in the
21st Century-Bridging the Gap”, and ”A Guided Approach to Preceptorship.”
Rosalie Tyrrell, RN, MS
“Understanding and Leading a Multigenerational Workforce.” Rosalie Tyrrell RN, MS will provide a
dynamic, interactive workshop on the Multigenerational workforce in nursing. Salient features of
each generation will be creatively presented. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and share
best practices and effective strategies in weaving together the rich tapestry of a multigenerational
workforce.
Rosalie is a graduate of Boston University and is a Professional Development Coordinator at
Massachusetts General Hospital. Rosalie has presented this workshop and
a wide variety of topics, both locally and nationally, to various organizations and audiences. Rosalie
has extensive experience as a nurse educator, manager, clinical nurse specialist and author.
Terry M. Foster, RN, MSN, CCNS, CCRN, CEN
Mr. Foster is a critical care clinical specialist from Saint Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Kentucky. Terry
has recently returned from a conference in Salt Lake City, Utah where he presented to and
entertained over 3,000 attendees. His unique style of presenting, with well timed and appropriate
humor, distinguishes him from the rest. Terry is in high demand throughout the country and once
you hear him speak you will understand why. He has climbed the education career ladder and has an
MSN in Critical Care and Trauma Nursing from the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing and
Health, Cincinnati, Ohio.
He is an accomplished author with several publications and has extensive teaching and lecturing
experience. Terry serves as a legal nurse consultant to numerous law firms and hospitals. Terry will
present “I’ve Got a Bad Feeling About This Patient,” “Develop a
Rapid Response Team: An Answer to a Nurses Prayer,” and “ How Can You Laugh At That? A
Closer look at the Use of Nursing Humor.”
Dr. Renee McLeod, DNSc, APRN, BC, CPNP-PC
Dr. Renee McLeod is Professor and Director of Graduate Education and Advanced Practice
Programs at Arizona State University College of Nursing. Renee has been a pediatric nurse
practitioner for 30 years. Her research interests are in the use of handheld technology to create
evidenced based practice, and patient compliance. Her strong research background and research
interests are in the use of handheld technology.
Dr. McLeod, in conjunction with Skyscape will cover two areas: "PDAs in Classroom and Clinical
Settings", and "Grant Writing for the Funding of PDAs.
Jill T. Lyons, MS, RN, J.D.
Brought back by popular demand, Jill Lyons J.D., will once again present yet another dimension of
the “legalities” specific to nurses. This year’s presentation will focus on “Documentation Dilemmas
and Their Solutions,” using a case study approach.
Jill is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts School of Nursing and Massachusetts School of
Law. She has an extensive background in emergency nursing, critical care nursing and Risk
Management. Jill has expertise defending nurses, physicians, and hospitals in malpractice cases.
